Stephen Spurgeon

Attorney Stephen Spurgeon is from Alexandria, Louisiana where he graduated from Alexandria Senior High School.  Mr. Spurgeon obtained his undergraduate degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and graduated in the top 10 of his class.  While at ULL he was a two term Senator of Engineering in Student Government. Mr. Spurgeon continued his education and obtained his law degree from Southern University Law Center where he graduated top 10. Stephen is licensed to practice law before all Louisiana District Courts and the United States Western District Court in Louisiana. Prior to becoming an attorney, Mr. Spurgeon worked as a Senior Petroleum Engineer for a Fortune 500 company.  Working in the oilfield as an engineer he gained valuable experience solving complex problems under strict deadlines.  He uses these skills today in his law practice to maximize the settlement amounts his clients recover.  Mr. Spurgeon’s legal career is focused primarily on personal injury cases, admiralty/maritime law, divorce/child custody cases, adoption proceedings and expungements.

Throughout his years of practice, he has handled a wide variety of cases ranging from motor vehicle accidents, whereby his client’s suffered serious injuries that required surgery, to cases dealing with the post-separation family violence relief act, whereby he has advocated for women’s rights when pertaining to custody of minor children after physical abuse.  Mr. Spurgeon is also a staunch advocate of father’s rights when it comes to child custody and pursues equal custody time for fathers.  One of Mr. Spurgeon’s favorite areas of law is intra-family adoptions.  He loves seeing the joy and pride in his clients’ faces when he successfully navigates the complex adoption system thereby making it possible for step-parents to adopt their step-children.

Mr. Spurgeon is a fierce attorney who doesn’t shy away from complex cases.  He prides himself in his aggressive approach to maximizing the compensation his clients receive in car accident cases.  He does everything in his power to make sure that his clients are fully taken care of and are made whole.  He uses his background in engineering to dissect accident scenes, police reports and expert reports to create strong arguments in favor of his clients.  He has and is willing to go the distance and take his cases to jury trial if an insurance company doesn’t offer a fair amount.

Mr. Spurgeon is an up-and-coming attorney who continues to make his mark on the legal field.  He has been named a rising star by Super Lawyers in personal injury law for the past two years.  He has been recognized among his peers as a top-rated personal injury attorney.  He was selected by the National Trial Lawyers as a Top 40 under 40 trial lawyer in Louisiana.

When not in the courtroom, Mr. Spurgeon loves giving back to his community and is very involved and active in different community organizations.  He is on the Board of Directors for the ASH Alumni Association where he has helped raise money that has benefitted numerous projects throughout the school.  He served on the Association formation committee and has served in numerous positions within the organization.  He is also a board member on the Alexandria Bar Association.  He is the past president of the Alexandria Bar Association Young Lawyers Section and now serves as past president on the board.  He actively serves on the Board of Appeal for the AICUZ England Airpark ordinances.  He is also a team member of the Louisiana State Police’s Sudden Impact program whereby he volunteers his time conducting mock criminal trials at various high schools throughout Louisiana with the purpose of educating students about the dangers and consequences of drinking and driving. 

In his free time, Mr. Spurgeon loves spending time with his family, going on family trips, coaching his son’s baseball team, playing golf and making memories.
